At6:00hetookashower.Heboiledsoepotatoesandhadopensandwichesofpickledherringinustardsaucewithchivesandeggonaricketytableoutsidethecottage,facingthebridge.Hepouredhiselfashotofaquavitanddrankatoasttohiself.AfterthatheopenedacrienovelbyValMcDeridentitledTheMeraidsSinging.

Ataround7:00Frodedroveupandsatheavilyinthechairacrossfrohi.BlokvistpouredhiashotofSkneaquavit.

“Youstirredupsoeratherlivelyeotionstoday,”Frodesaid.

Mikaelnodded.

FrodelookedathisgssofSkneanddownedtheliquorinonegulp.

Blokvistlookedupatthesky,whereraincloudshadbeguntogather.
